Mental Health Gatekeeper Trainings for Staff and Faculty
We are all aware of the increasing national focus on student well-being and mental health. We want to create a supportive mental health culture by ensuring that our students access effective campus mental health resources.
The Mental Health Gatekeeper Training Program consists of two separate 2-hour mental health trainings offered to UC Davis staff and faculty who work with students. These trainings are sponsored by the Office of Student Affairs. It is funded by the University of California Office of the President’s Equity in Mental Health Program.
Both trainings are evidenced-based trainings designed to help equip staff and faculty with skills and knowledge to comfortably and confidently speak to students about mental health concerns and help them identify campus mental health resources. They are referred to as "gatekeeper" trainings because faculty and staff are often in these positions in which they can be students' gateways to help.
The two trainings are: 1) Question, Persuade, Refer (QPR) focused on psychiatric crises and (2) The Inquiring Mind focused on mental health promotion and early intervention.
