Combating Period Poverty: Free Menstrual Products In Campus Restrooms
1 in 4 teens in the U.S. have missed class due to Period Poverty – we are here to change that by implementing free menstrual products into 23 Campus Restrooms beginning Fall Quarter 2021!
Introduction:
Since 2016, Davis Period and #FreethePeriod, along with the Menstrual Equity Task Force, have been working to combat Period Poverty. We believe menstrual hygiene products are a basic necessity just like soap or toilet paper, and that no student should have to sacrifice education due to lack of access. With the help of UC Davis facilities, we will now be stocking 23 Campus Restrooms with free period products purchased from Aunt Flow! As of now these products will be available starting Fall Quarter 2021 in both women’s and gender neutral restrooms, with a goal to expand to all restrooms in the future. We are so grateful to the Healthy UC Davis organization for helping fund these products and increase access for the UC Davis community.
Outcomes:
Twenty-three Campus Restrooms to be stocked with free pads and tampons.
Opportunities for Involvement:
Davis Period will be present at the Club Fair and is always looking for new members!
Recent Milestones:
Facilities has received the product and the dispensers are to be installed this September.
