Application Considerations
Allocation Priorities for Healthy UC Davis & Equity in Mental Health Grants
Projects should align with the mission, vision and values of Healthy UC Davis. More information on this can be found on our website. We will also be particularly interested in projects that can help us make strides toward:

- Providing UC Davis community members with support, opportunity, information and tools to engage in healthy behaviors
- Advocating for policies, institutional practices and a built environment that promotes health and well-being

- Aligning and leveraging communication resources and messaging to ensure coordinated outreach efforts
- Equity in Mental Health for students:
- Directly supporting under-served students
- Promoting a culture of well-being on campus
- Promoting student academic success
- Providing clear measurable outcomes
Projects should benefit UC Davis students, staff, faculty or academics. In addition to the multiple populations, UC Davis consists of multiple physical locations. While not required, projects which have broad reach are favored.
Application Components
In addition to listing the priority areas in which your project meets, you must prepare the following:
- Specific aims of the project
- Clearly defined, measurable outcomes
- A detailed budget
- Desired or anticipated impact
- Sustainability of the project beyond granted funding
- An evaluation plan
Who Can Apply?
Any UC Davis student, staff, or faculty member can submit a project proposal. Individuals and organizations outside the University are not eligible to submit project proposals.
Funding
For the Healthy UC Davis Project Grants, projects of all sizes will be reviewed. For the Equity in Mental Health Grants, proposal applicants can request up to $20,000. Because Healthy UC Davis funds multiple proposals, projects exceeding available funding may be partially funded.
In our previous funding cycle, the average grant awarded was approximately $17,250, with funding ranging from $1,000 to $60,000. Applicants will need to take into consideration the budget needed for the following categories: facilities, payroll, performers/guest speakers, publicity/marketing, supplies/materials, travel, food, etc.
We expect that each submitted proposal meets and abides by the UC Davis Policies and Procedures and UC Standards of Ethical Conduct.
Goods and services requested in your proposal must abide by the Conflict of Interest Code.
Ineligible Expenses
Funding will not be awarded for the following:
- Non-student Payroll/Benefits
- Capital Purchases
- Alcohol
- Utensils
- External consultation fees
- Goods or services that present a conflict of interest
Fund Use
- Prior to funds being disbursed, you will be asked to sign an Agreement of Fund Use
- Funds will be available to successful applicants beginning July 1, 2023
- Funds must be used in accordance with the budget submitted
- Funds must be expended no later than June 30, 2025. Any unused funds will be returned to Healthy UC Davis
Identifying Your Department Account Manager
The Healthy UC Davis proposal application asks that you name a UC Davis fiscal officer or project manager to oversee your expenses. This individual will ideally support your grant funds and administers financial transactions, including but not limited to, hiring, invoices & reimbursements, etc.

When complete, please email your budget spreadsheet to healthy@ucdavis.edu with your project title.
*Are you an applicant applying on behalf of a Student Affairs unit? Please indicate your affiliation with a Student Affairs unit in Question 8.
Revisions and Supplemental Information
Did you press "submit" too soon? If you forgot any pertinent pieces of information, please email healthy@ucdavis.edu no later than 5 p.m. on February 17. We encourage proposal writers to start early and submit early to avoid any major issues.
After You Apply
Proposal Review and Notification
The Healthy UC Davis proposal committee comprised of staff, academics, and students will review your application and budget template. You and your co-applicants, if applicable, may be contacted prior to April 14, 2023, to provide supplemental information.
If You Are Awarded Funding
If your project is awarded funding, there are several spending, reporting and marketing requirements to meet.
Fund Use
- Prior to funds being disbursed, you will be asked to sign an Agreement of Fund Use
- Funds will be available to successful applicants beginning July 1, 2023
- Funds must be used in accordance with the budget submitted
- Funds must be expended no later than June 30, 2025. Any unused funds will be returned to Healthy UC Davis
Project Webpage
Each project must create a project webpage on the Healthy UC Davis website. Examples of project webpages are available to view. Webpages include information about objectives, opportunities for involvement, and contact information for project lead(s).
Marketing Requirements
Funded projects must clearly identify Healthy UC Davis as a funding source on any:
- Semi-permanent or permanent campus infrastructure
- Literature, posters, and publicity
- Collateral items (e.g., giveaways)
- Webpages external to the Healthy UC Davis
At minimum, the Healthy UC Davis logo is required. Draft verbiage can be sent to healthy@ucdavis.edu for review.
Reporting
Project leads must report on their project progress during fiscal years 2023-25. Reporting includes:
- Quarterly Updates:
- Every quarter, project leads must prepare updates on hiring and recruitment, event dates, spent and unspent funds, challenges or roadblocks, etc.
- These updates will be presented in two ways:
- A quarterly survey to report progress
- A short update at a Healthy UC Davis steering committee meeting (March, June, September, December)
- Final Presentation and Report:
- When a project concludes, project leads must prepare a:
- Final presentation to the Healthy UC Davis steering committee and/or the Mental Health Equity Task Force
- Summary slide for use in future presentations
- Final budget breakdown; any unused funds will be returned to Healthy UC Davis
- Two-page report that should detail any data points and testimonials, budget, outcomes, process insights, and future recommendations. The report template will be provided
